I feel much serenity to sit and carve in silence. The deeper the groove, the more likely the glaze will settle and often form a darker colour to its surrounding area. My first thoughts when carving are often designs around leaves and flowers, sometimes skecthed, but more often than not I enjoy the freehand style of carving.
